Lighting Ideas to Brighten Up Your Wedding

An effective way to take your wedding decor to the next level, is with stunning lighting effects.

Lighting will compliment the décor of your wedding reception, and the venue, and can be as simple as twinkling lights, and candles, or a full dance-floor and DJ lighting display. Choosing the right lighting that works with your venue is key, and lighting is essential for almost all outdoor weddings, which are most common in Puerto Vallarta. Most villas or private venues have limited outdoor lighting, and if any lighting exists, it would most likely be inadequate for a wedding reception setting.
There are many lighting options, from fun and exciting to elegant, or moody. Choose from glamorous chandeliers, or a string of vintage bulbs over your dinner tables.  Here are some popular ideas for lighting your wedding reception.

Overhead Lighting for Your Reception

A wedding reception space needs lighting, primarily so your guests can make their way around, as well as see whats on the dinner tables, such as the food and place setting with glassware, cutlery, and menu cards etc. Here are a few examples of cool, and elegant options.

Fairy-Lights

Suspend a blanket of fairy lights over the entire reception for a visually impacting experience for the night. These add a magical touch to the exotic surroundings of an ocean front garden or a tropical beach in front of on of Puerto Vallarta’s magnificent villas. Fairly lights can be equally as charming, especially if they are artfully placed in trees and bushes to highlight any particular features of your venue’s garden.

Bistro String Lights
Another fun way to light up your outdoor reception is with string lights of baby, or vintage bulbs. This method is a little simpler, and you can use as many strands as you’d like to create the perfect setting. Place them around the perimeter or use more strands to create a canopy effect over different sections of the wedding, such as dinner tables or a dance floor. Or, keep it simple with just a few strands to cast a romantic glow over the reception. String lights are easier to install usually, as you can use palm trees and parts of a building to anchor the lines to, and eliminate the need for structures, like poles, or trusses to be brought in, which raises the cost. There are generally 2 types of string lights that offer a different look, that are also more suited for certain applications and installations.

Chandeliers
For vintage themes nothing beats glass chandeliers hanging over the tables or dinner space. Chandeliers are an old favorite for wedding venues in the past, but they have a wonderful effect even for many wedding styles and themes of today. They can take you back to a variety of historical periods, or bring a modern feel to everything with their gleaming crystals and special teardrop bulbs.

Brides Love Candles!

Votives and Pilar Candles
Nothing adds romance to the atmosphere like the soft glow of a candle flame, and many brides choose these as a simple and low budget way to light their reception venue, indoors or outdoors. Small glass votives and t-lights are really romantic and very versatile and often found on the dinner tables, and can be used to accent any element of your wedding, indoors and out. If you’re feeling creative, many different shapes and sizes of candles can be put together to create your own beautiful table centerpieces with a touch of flowers and greenery. A versatile way to create a few nice effects, from rustic to contemporary.

Lanterns and Luminaries
Use candle-lit lanterns, or paper luminaries to light up the pathway and create an enchanting ambiance as you walk down the aisle. Tea lights in paper luminaries, or glass cylinders also serve as a fantastic light source for outdoor pathways and gardens.

Hanging Candles and Terrariums
Place a tea candle in a mason jar or glass bowl to instantly transform these simple items into classy décor. You can also hang these jars from tree branches to light up your outdoor reception. There are endless possibilities with candles, and they are another great DIY option for the cost-conscious bride.
